The boys’ golf team got it together on Monday to take the third qualifying spot at the C-3 District tournament at Hartington. The signs had been there for a couple weeks that the team had the ability to shoot a good score. We’d had personal bests here and there recently, but just needed to have them trust they could do it when it mattered. That happened on Monday and now we get to build on that confidence to do our best at state.
The Huskies shot 185 on the front nine which matched our best front nine of the year, then everyone got it going on the back nine. Weston Mathis shot 47-38-85 and Mason Mitchell shot 44-41-85 to medal 5th and 6th respectively. Bryce Steinkraus shot 48-43-91 for his best score this season. Luke Olson showed good consistency with a 45-50-95. He has been playing solid the last few tournaments. Nolan Hoffman moved back on the varsity late in the season and put in a good back nine to finish 56-47-103. Cole Poessnecker served as the alternate on the day.
On behalf of Coach Kuchar and myself we’re proud of the way the team worked hard this year and so glad they are going to get a chance to compete at the Class C state tournament. State is to be held Tuesday, May 24th and Wednesday, May 25th at the Elks Country Club in Columbus.
