Downtown business districts are the heart of rural communities across the state. It’s the most visible part of communities and more than likely the first-place visitors stop, whether they’re here for a weekend or just passing through. Valley County Economic Development (VCED) and the Ord Area Chamber are committed to assisting all Valley County downtown business and building owners, as they realize that in the current economic times, entrepreneurial success can be challenging. This is one of the reasons why VCED and the Ord Area Chamber are pooling their resources to create a new tool for businesses. Introducing the Valley County Downtown & Periphery Area Improvement Rebate Program!
Beginning in 2023, area businesses in any of the four Valley County downtown districts of Ord, Arcadia, Elyria and North Loup, will be able to apply for this dollar-for-dollar building improvements rebate program. Those awarded the rebate can receive up to $10,000 for their project. This program was developed from the previous microloan programs offered by VCED and Ord Area Chamber and will be part of several tools utilized by VCED as we continue to take a county-wide approach to address the needs of our downtown communities, including comprehensive downtown reviews and redevelopment plans.
The opportunity to assist business owners with needed improvements, as well as aid in preserving the integrity or physical appearance of brick-and-mortar business, life safety issues, fire code compliance, ADA accessibility, structural façade, landscaping, signage, building code compliance, second story housing, demolition, energy efficiency and more is the goal. Through participation in the revitalization of area businesses, we hope to continue to strengthen retail and commercial amenities, allow implementation of quality site design standards and elements, and allow for projects that create a vibrant downtown.
Applications are available now and will be accepted for review after January 1, 2023.
